Overcoming Critics in My Head

Updated: Jun 4, 2018

Anyone can do this!

Local Publication in Hendricks County Indiana

Hello everyone, I hope my journey will inspire and help you move forward either as an artist or just in being the person you were meant to be. I am a painter living in Indianapolis, Indiana. I have known I was as artist since I was a small child, but once I went to art school and finished I had let the professors there destroy my self-confidence so I never picked up a brush for 22 years. I like to tell a little story I learned about this very topic. It goes like this, "One day a young artist was having his first exhibition and a critic came up to him and asked if he wanted to hear what the critic had to say. The artist said yes, certainly. The critic looked down upon the artist and said well, It's awful and not worth much and the young artist said oh, I know that but I would like to hear it anyway."

I love this story because that artist knew already it didn't really matter what the critic said because the artist believed in himself all ready. This was not to say the artist was arrogant or didn't think he couldn't learn more, just that ONE person's opinion was going to destroy what was in his heart and soul that needed to be expressed. After 22 years of letting people's opinion hold me back I have broken through and now I"m never looking back. An artist is who I was made to be and it is WHO I am going to be for the rest of my life. Please join me on this journey. I'm here to share and support you are your journey too.
